Greater unity under a Middle Malaysia

Three generations of Malaysians regardless of race or religion have been singing the state anthems of seven states invoking the name of Allah to bless and protect the Sultan and people. Were they wrong?

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s “1Malaysia” slogan is facing its most critical test less than a year of its coinage in the “Allah” controversy, which has catapulted Malaysia into three weeks of adverse international attention raising the question whether we qualify to be a model modern nation-state of racial and religious diversity.

Three generations of Malaysians regardless of race or religion have been singing the state anthems of seven states, Johore, Selangor, Perak, Kedah, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu invoking the name of Allah to bless and protect the Sultan and people. Were they wrong?

The six-line Perak state anthem invoked Allah’s name four times, viz:

Dilanjutkan Allah usianya Sultan
Adil dan murah memerintah watan
Ditaati rakyat kiri dan kanan
Iman yang soleh Allah kurniakan
Allah berkati Perak Darul Ridzuan
Allah selamatkan Negeri dan Sultan

Allah, grant the Sultan a long life
Just and gracious, ruling the homeland
Obeyed by the people left and right
Allah endow the righteous faith
Sanctify Perak Darul Ridzuan, O Allah
Salvage the State and Sultan, O Allah

Allah’s name is invoked thrice in the Terengganu state anthem, viz:

Allah daulatkan Tuanku Sultan,
Terengganu Darul Iman,
Allah peliharakan Tuanku Sultan,
Sejahtera sepanjang zaman,
Allah rahmatkan Tuanku Sultan,
Memerintah rakyat aman.

God may his majesty remain sovereign,
Terengganu the abode of faith,
God bless his majesty,
Blissful throughout his reign,
God bestow mercy upon his majesty,
Govern the people in peace.

The Johore anthem starts with “Allah peliharakan Sultan” and ends with:

Allah berkati Johor
Allah selamatkan Sultan

The Pahang anthem starts with

Ya Allah Yang Masa Kuasa,
Lanjutkan Usia Duli Yang Maha Mulia,

and ends with

Ya Allah Selamatkan Duli Tuanku Raja Kami

The name of Allah is invoked in Selangor state anthem’s “Allah lanjutkan usia Tuanku”, Kelantan state anthem’s “Segala Kebesaran Allah cucurkan” and Kedah state anthem’s “Allah selamat Sultan Makhota”.

Have three generations of Malaysians, particularly non-Muslims in the seven states of Johore, Selangor, Perak, Kedah, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu done wrong and been offending the sensitivities of their Muslim contemporaries in using the name of Allah to bless and protect and the Sultan and people when singing the respective state anthems?

Were the Muslims particularly in these seven states in the past 52 years offended that non-Muslim Malaysians were also using the word “Allah” in these state anthems?

The answer can only a powerful “No’. If so, why should the “Allah” controversy reach its present level as to seriously tarnish Malaysia’s international reputation, undoing all efforts to attract foreign investors, tourists and students with the spate of arson and vandalism of places of worship, totalling 14 cases of attacks on churches, mosque and surau, a gurdwara and a school in several states since Jan. 8.

The Prime Minister and Cabinet must end its paralysis to be able to represent all Malaysians to resolve the “Allah” controversy. Its Achilles’ heel is that has defaulted from its mediator role to resolve the “Allah” controversy because it has become a major protagonist itself.

This is why the Prime Minister and Cabinet should revert to their role as representing all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion.

As a first step, the Cabinet should withdraw the Home Ministry’s appeal against the Kuala Lumpur High Court judgment of judge Datuk Lau Bee Lan so that it could play the role of mediator to resolve the “Allah” controversy through an inter-religious dialogue to restore the religious equilibrium and harmony that was so imprudently disrupted by the then Home Minister, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar in 2007 in banning the Catholic weekly Herald from using the word “Allah” in its Bahasa Malaysia publication.

You assume I left Malaysia illegally or on a false or foreign passport. You do not know. You assume I entered another country using a false or foreign passport. You do not know. In fact, you do not even know whether I am still in the country since you can’t trace any evidence that I am not.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Musa Hassan, Malaysia’s IGP, is embarking on a fishing expedition. He has told his officers to explore all avenues on how to get me. The trouble is: many of his own police officers report to me rather than to him. So I know what he did this morning and what he is doing right now even as you read this.

Musa Hassan thinks he has police officers monitoring my movements. Actually, none of his officers really know where I am and instead I have police officers monitoring his movements and reporting to me every day about what is happening on the top floors of the police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

Initially, they thought they could get me through my son. They beat up my son to get him to plead guilty to various criminal charges. But when the case went to court my son revealed that he had been beaten up and he changed his plea to not guilty.

So they had no choice but to allow the trial to go on and it was revealed during the trial that the allegations against my son were not quite true after all.

They then adjourned the trial and sent my son back to the Sungai Buloh Prison where they beat him up again. Then my son went berserk and they had to admit him into the psychiatric ward. Later, they transferred him to solitary confinement because he was still considered a mental case and too dangerous to be allowed to mix with the other prisoners.

Yes, as much as they thought they could keep this hidden from me I managed to find out. And the message I sent the police was they can go ahead and kill my son in prison for all I care. As much as I hate to say so, my son is collateral damage. We are all collateral damage. Sometimes, in a struggle, people must die, even if it is your own son.

Did we not read about the time of the Islamic Empire in Medina when a mother was told that her last son had died in the war? She cried when told she has lost all her sons. But she cried because she had no more sons to offer the cause.

That is what we have been raised to believe in. The cause is more important than all else. So what do they think they can achieve by beating up my son? They think that will soften me? On the contrary, it will harden me even further as this is now more than just about the cause. This is also about seeing that a debt is paid, blood for blood.

And Musa Hassan thinks that just because he is the top dog of the police force that means he is also the smartest police officer in Malaysia. He probably could not find his dick in the dark if his sex life depended on it.

You want to know what good police work is? Let me teach you good police work. Do you know what the Chief Prosecutor of the MACC, Kevin Morais, did for Christmas? I bet you don’t. Do you know he spent Christmas right through New Year with his English boyfriend many years his senior in Bromley, Kent, UK? I bet you didn’t know that.

And I also know you are threatening the police officers who signed Statutory Declarations alleging your links with the Chinese underworld to change their statements and declare that what they first signed were all lies.

It is a bit too late now. Those Statutory Declarations are two years old. You should have made these police officers sign their second Statutory Declarations the very next day like what you made PI Bala do

Do you wish to deny this? Do you wish to say that RPK and Malaysia Today are lying? Let’s hear you say this and then I will publish copies of all these documents just to prove that you are the one lying. Even the Sabah High Court has called you a liar and in a short while I shall publish this evidence in another article.

The powers-that-be is trying to convince you to retire and to take up a position as an Ambassador. Maybe that is the best thing to do seeing that you are no good as a policeman anyway. But why Ambassador? Why do they always send undesirables such as bottom-pinchers to become Ambassadors?

I can suggest two countries they can send you as an Ambassador. Haiti or Mongolia. I am sure the Mongolians would welcome the man who destroyed evidence of Altantuya’s murder to allow the real murderers to get off scot-free.

So what do you plan to do now, Musa Hassan? Offer ‘evidence’ that I published false Statutory Declarations by police officers so that you can charge me under the Multimedia Act? Why did you not do that with my own Statutory Declaration? Why investigate me for signing a false Statutory Declaration but instead charge me for Criminal Defamation where the truth of the matter is not material to the charge? Are you scared of charging me for signing a false Statutory Declaration lest the truth surface in court?

You assume I left Malaysia illegally or on a false or foreign passport. You do not know. You assume I entered another country using a false or foreign passport. You do not know. In fact, you do not even know whether I am still in the country since you can’t trace any evidence that I am not.

What kind of ‘top cop’ are you? You are outraged because I am making a fool of you when actually you are making a fool of yourself. Your entire game plan is based on assumptions and you do not even know whether your assumptions are right in the first place.

I know more about what you are doing than you know about what I am doing. More of your police officers report to me than to you. You are just guessing as to where I am and what I am up to whereas I know your every move. I even know that your chief henchman, Kevin Morais, was frolicking in bed with another man while you thought you had Dato’ Ramli Yusuff’s and Rosli Dahlan’s balls in your grip.

You think you can outsmart me, Musa Hassan? I know you charged one Indian police officer for Kugan’s murder when it was three police officers that beat him to death in the Subang Jaya Police Station. Why charge just the one Indian police officer? Why not charge the other two Malay police officers as well? Is it because you are scared it may turn into a racial issue if the world finds out that two Malay police officers also beat Kugan to death? So if one Indian police officer murders another Indian then the government is ‘safe’? You think we have forgotten that initially 11 police officers were ‘suspended’ and given a desk job for Kugan’s murder?

Musa Hassan, you are not of my league. You are not even of the league of an IO. And I have met many of your IOs in the course of the last eleven years so I know what I am talking about. You should accept the offer of retirement in exchange for an Ambassadorship to Haiti or Mongolia and put the entire Malaysian Police Force out of its misery. The Malaysian police will hold a 30-day Mardi Gras the day they see you sent out to pasture. Trust me, your police officers report to me, so I know.

Goodnight, Musa Hassan, wherever you are. In the meantime, watch the video below and take special note of the lyrics.

A STAR IS BORN

SINGAPORE, Jan 6 — It has been a good year for 24-year-old Li Shengwu. The Singaporean graduated five months ago as the top economics student at Oxford University.

And as the decade turned the corner, he was crowned Best Speaker at the just-concluded World Universities Debating Championships in Turkey.

Li, a master’s student in economics at Oxford, took the top individual honour at the event — known colloquially as the ‘Worlds’ and regarded as the most prestigious debating tournament in the world.

He is the third Singaporean to receive the award, cementing Singapore’s status as a debate powerhouse. Since 1981, when the competition began, all Asian winners have been Singaporean.

The Best Speaker prize goes to the tournament’s most consistently exceptional debater and adjudicators were yesterday full of praise for Li.

“Without doubt, Shengwu is the finest Oxford debater of his generation,” said one judge, Daniel Warents. “This is a fact now recognised by the whole world.”

Country-wise, Singapore is ranked fourth in terms of Best Speaker winners, behind Australia, Canada and England.

That is very good for a country of five million, the competition’s unofficial historian, Colm Flynn, noted.

Bringing together 800 debaters from top universities, the ‘Worlds’ ended on Sunday after six days of verbal combat between 400 two-man teams.

Singapore’s three universities sent seven teams altogether, although none made it past the preliminary rounds.

The first Singaporean Best Speaker winner was Chitra Jenardhanan in 1995. Representing Nanyang Technological University, she was also the first woman and the first Asian to take the trophy.

She is now head of project work at River Valley High and has been an on-and-off debate coach throughout her career as an educator.

In 2003, Dr Tan Wu Meng, representing Cambridge University, won it. He is now an oncologist at the National Cancer Centre.

Li and his university colleague, Briton Jonathan Leader Maynard, were second overall in the competition, losing in the final to a Sydney University team.

They were the hot favourites, having taken top honours at other championships, such as the European University Championships in August last year.

The high expectations helped rather than hampered, said Li, who is the son of Fraser & Neave chairman Lee Hsien Yang and corporate lawyer Lee Suet Fern, and the grandson of Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

One judge told him he won Best Speaker because, in addition to cerebral arguments, he marshalled rhetorical style. He knew how to play the crowd, and how to use the cadences of argument to his advantage, said the adjudicator.

What gave him the confidence to do so, Li said yesterday, was an audience already expecting excellence: “It gave me leeway to be more stylish, to do things you need the audience to trust you to do.”

He got into debate in secondary school and represented Singapore at the 2003 world championships when at Raffles Junior College.

Geetha Creffield, head of Arts at Anglo-Chinese Junior College and Li’s coach in 2003, said what sets him apart is his ability to make arguments seem new. It is a skill Li is proud of.

To him, debate is a game of strategy, like chess. But unlike chess, where a player uses rules of the game to win, he said, the rules of reason are ever amorphous. The creative debater can find an argument that takes his opponent by surprise.

For Li, it is his most prized weapon in verbal spar and parry: an argument the enemy did not see coming. — The Straits Times

This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ..not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.
It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.

Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food.. It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks:
· Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,
· Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
· You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
· Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
· 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
· Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep.. Let's be careful and be aware... The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

NATURE IS BETTER THAN WESTERN MEDICINE

WESTERN MEDICINE AT TIMES IS NOT EFFECTIVE AND ITS TOO EXPENSIVE.
ALWAYS GO BACK TO NATURE - THERE IS A CURE FOR MOST ILLS.

This may be of interest to you or your friends.

Eight months' ago, my colleague's mum, who has an advance stage colon cancer, was asked by a specialist in a well known cancer specialist centre in Penang to discharge, not because she has recovered, but she only has three more days of life, due to the tumour has blocked her colon.

It just happen that another colleague, who is a family friend of the first colleague, got the above cancer formula from her manager. She boiled this formula and took it to her friend's house to let her friend's mum to drink. On the 3rd days after the patient took this formula, she
pass out whatever trapped in her stomach. One week later, she can walk out of her house balcony and wave to the collegue who cooked the formula for her. The patient is recovering and still living, to the surprise of the cancer specialist.

My family took this formula in the past six months, as a general health soup, and we found that we are not easily infected by common flu. Even if we were infected by flu, it just recover after taking some medicine from general physician, without develop into bronchitis or fever.

Most of the ingredients are available at Tesco, except the leave of "white carrot" which need to reserve from the vegetable whole-seller (who use to chop-off the leave from the "white carrot") before he send the "white carrot" to retailers.

Kindly circulate to as many people as possible as it may save life.

Quarrel Over God?

The Home Ministry has filed a notice of its appeal at the Court of Appeal against a High Court ruling that allowed the Catholic paper Herald to use the word “Allah” to describe the Christian God in its Bahasa Malaysia edition.

It will also file an appeal to stay the execution of the Dec 31 court decision that has angered many Muslim Malaysians who feel it can confuse them and affect their faith.

Only God knows how these Muslim Malaysians can be confused by the use of "Allah" by others to describe Him.

How can a person's faith be so easily affected? Only God knows...

Calling God by any name means love, inclusiveness, forgiveness and divine.

It is a shame that we quarrel over how we should call Him. Is this a sign of growing conservatism in Malaysia? UMNO has protested against the court's decision to reverse the ban. UMNO, UMNO and UMNO again...Why must this party be associated with all the bad news?

Malaysians should focus on corruption, rising crime, abuse of power, arrogance of power and fame, racism and the environment instead.

Monday blues

School started yesterday and tuition fees for my three children costed me a dent of RM570.It was a hugh amount to fork out but this investment is a worth's one as you could reap the reward when you see your children going to the university and started to work one day.

Back to School.

After more then 49 days long holidays, school will be opened tomorrow. It will be back to normal and school children would be cramped with tons of homework.Parents would be big-headed by their children's education as they have to fork out extra money to tide away the inflationary rate that is incredibly high.

My three children expenses have rocketed to about 1k...tuition's fees, bus transport, uniform, school shoes, bags, utensils,etc..etc..It is a burden to people like us and furthermore with the tsunami news of the rise of 20 for a kg. of sugar,it would be bad for the economy.Everything will be systematically increased in price and consumers are the ones paying feeling the pinch.

The government should absorb the cost of increase and not to burden the people. This would lead to a steep rise of inflation and everything would be risen in a couple of days.I wonder if this goes on,life would be not the same as last year.

Memories moment of schooldays.

Relative came knocking at the door.

I received a call from a long lost relative from Pahang stating that he and wife are coming today for holidays in Penang. He was my uncle's son and happened to visit his wife's relative in Batu Ferringgi.

It was a memorable day for both family as it has been ages for us to rekindle the lost time that we had forsaken. Thanks for the connection of my sister in Thailand that has made it possible.

Here are some pictures for remembrance's sake.

New Year nightmare.

The first day of the year 2010 has become a nightmare to Malaysians as the price of sugar per kg has risen by 20 cents.A loaf of bread(gardenic) for a 660 g was raised to RM3 from RM2.70.

Malaysians were cheated by the govt. and I wonder why she took on this particular day to burden the people.Sooner or later the prices of other things would be automatically inflated and the people on the street would go haywire.
